Pre- Diabetes

Pre-diabetes is when you have high blood glucose levels, but not high enough to be diagnosed with Diabetes. Pre-Diabetes is also as serious as Diabetes, it can cause long term damage to the heart, and circulatory system. Pre-Diabetes may lead to Type II diabetes if left untreated. You may delay or prevent the onset of Type II diabetes by maintaining a healthy diet and exercising.

Who is At Risk for Developing Pre-Diabetes?

People with a family history of Type II diabetes. Women who had Gestational Diabetes or a baby weighing more than 9 lbs. Women who have polycystic ovary syndrome. You may also be at risk for developing Pre-Diabetes if you belong to any of the following minority groups, African Americans, Native Americans, Latinos, and Pacific Islanders. People with high cholesterol, high triglycerides, low good 'HDL' cholesterol, and high bad 'LDL' cholesterol. If you do not exercise regularly or follow a healthy balanced diet you may also be at risk.

Symptoms of Pre - Diabetes include excessive thirst, frequent desire to urinate, blurred vision or extreme fatigue.
