DIABETIC FACTS

What are the Symptoms?

Frequent Urination:
Urination becomes more frequent because there is more glucose in the blood, so the body is trying to get rid of it. Since there is no insulin present the kidneys have no way to filter the blood back. The kidneys become overworked and try to excrete extra water from the blood to dilute the excess glucose. This causes you bladder to be full all the time.

Exessive Thirst
Since you are constantly urinating your body is getting rid of excess water and this is causing you to become dehydrated so your body is working to replace the water that you are getting rid of.

Weakness and Fatigue
Since the body is unable to produce proper glucose amounts for fuel. The body then metabolizes fat. This process causes the body to use more energy, and therefore causing you to feel more tired and drained.

Unexplained Weight Loss-
This symptom is more noticeable in Type 1 Diabetes. In type 1 diabetes the pancreas stops producing insulin. The body then begins to desperately look for energy and since it is not getting it from the glucose it then begins to breakdown muscle tissue and fat for energy.

Tingling or Numbness in your hands legs and feet
This symptom is called Neuropathy, this is when you have uncontrolled blood sugar levels for a long period of time and may develop nerve damage. Consistent high blood glucose levels damages the nervous system, particularly on the extremities. This symptom is mostly seen in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Other Signs and Symptoms that can occur:
Blurred vision, dry or itchy skin, frequent infections or cuts and bruises that take a long time to heal.
